How do I submit classifieds?

Once registered,  Click the 'classifieds' link on the menu above  and click a category - like cars.  You will then see the 'submit ad' link. You can submit pictures up to 300kb but photos are not obligatory.  Ads last up to 10 days and you can edit ads or log in and extend. You can delete or change your add whenever you want by logging in, clicking 'My ads' and going to the modify/delete link at the bottom of the ad. How do I submit a news story?

Once registered, just click on the 'Submit News' link on the left of the home page. Type your story inside the text box. All stories are published if they conform to our terms and conditions but we try to put ones that are likely to be of most interest or are topical on the front page. You must click 'save' when the story is finished.

Once registered, click the 'add your business' link in the  Free Advertising box on the left of the home page. Fill in the form as far as the email box. Ignore the paid bit – scroll down to the ‘Please select a category’ section.  After you have clicked the category, click the >>> button on the right to get it in the box. Accept the terms, enter the safety code and click send.  Now go back to the home page, click the grey Andover Business Directory link (under the river picture at the top of the page) and check your entry is there.

Remember you get a free 25 page website which you can edit yourself with every Andover Times Premium advert. Click here to find out more on the webdesignsershampshire.com sitel

What is the advantage of the paid entry?

A free website, top position on our site and a higher ranking on Google. More and more people don't look in the newspaper for business services, they just type in the search term to Google -with the paid entry you can put in special search terms that mean your business is much more likely to appear in the top rankings. If want to get the instructions on the fee website and read more click here.

Websites cost a fortune don't they? How can they be free?

Yes, they really are. We will set you up with a site of your choice -fully on line with your choice of wording. You can alter both the content and the design yourself at any stage - no more webdesign fees to pay. Alternatively, you can design your own site with our DIY option -   click here to see it work.

How do I get the photo the right size?

If you right click on an image in your ‘pictures’ folder on your computer and then click on properties at the bottom of the menu that pops up, you will usually see the file size. If it is too big (over 300kb), click on your picture editing programme (Paint, Microsoft Picture Manager, crop your image to remove any unnecessary parts.   All photo editing software will have a command for changing the pixel dimensions of an image. Look for a command called "Image Size," "Resize," or "Resample." Many picture editing programmes – like MS Picture Manager – have a ‘Constrain proportions’ option. Tick this because it prevents the image from being stretched and distorted. When this option is enabled, you only need to enter one value--height or width--and the other value will adjust automatically. After that,  go to File>Save As then click the tab at the bottom of the pop up window that says 'File type', click >JPEG and save - but use a different name to the original photo otherwise you will overwrite it.

Most image management and some photo editing software have an "email photos" command that will resize and compress the images for you. In fact, Windows XP has this functionality built-in.  If you have this facilitiy, just send the email the picture to yourself as an attachment then save it - it will automatically resize.  Some software can resize, compress, and generate complete photo galleries for posting on the Web. And there are specialized tools for both of these tasks--many of them free software. I am a trader.

Can I submit trade adverts free of charge as well?

Yes, as long as you say you are trade in the advert.

How do I submit articles or attach a more info page to my business directory page?

Click on 'more info', club news or whatever other content you want to submit. A pop up page will appear above the input window with a menu rather like Microsoft Word. Enter your content. On the top row there is a clip board with a W on it. It is best to use this. Type it all out in Word and save it and then just cut it and paste it into the upload window.

What sort of pictures can I use in articles?

Jpeg or PNG format is best and keep pictures small.  Bitmap won't work because the file size is too large. If you've got a picture and don't know what it is, you can go to your image editing program, click 'save  as' and from the drop down menu of file types, save it as a jpeg file.

How do I put pictures in an article or in my info page?

Once you've saved the picture as a jpeg or png on your own computer, click the little framed tree icon on the bottom row of the menu bar of the input window.  The page that pops up looks confusing but it isn't. In the middle of the page, you will see a folder icon. Click on that to name and give the folder a name. Now open that folder and click on the little globe with the green arrow. You will be familiar with what happens next. You just upload your file in the normal way from your hard drive. It is now uploaded to the web. Click on it in the bottom folder  you have just named, it will open up in the bottom right window beneath which is 'insert'. Make sure you have the cursor in the right place before you click insert.

How do I get it published?

More information pages are only available for paid adverts. If you have a paid advert, just click upload. We scan (but don't proof) all articles before uploading.
